The Department of Food and Agriculture (DoFA) is the lead agency responsible for implementation of Government policies on Agriculture in the District.
The Department consists of Six (6) units such as Crops/PPRS, Animal Production, Extension, Women in Agriculture (WIAD), Animal Health (Veterinary) and Monitoring and Evaluation/MIS
Vision
The Vision of the Department is a modernized agriculture culminating in a structurally transformed economy and evident in food security, employment opportunities and reduced poverty.
Mission
The mission of the Department is to promote sustainable agriculture and thriving agribusiness through research and technology development, effective extension and other support services to farmers, processors and traders for improved livelihood.
Objectives
Agriculture in the Abura Asebu Kwamankese District is considered as a pillar of its economy with a greater impact on poverty reduction than other sectors. It is critical in rural development and associated culture values, social stabilization, environmental sustainability and buffer during economic shocks. Based on the mandate of the Department, the District derived its objectives from the Food and Agriculture Sector Development Policy (FASDEP II) as follows;
- Food security and emergency preparedness
- Improve growth in income
- Increased competitiveness and enhanced integration into domestic and international markets
- Sustainable management of land and environment
- Science and Technology Applied in food and agriculture development and
- Improved institutional coordination.
