The Social Welfare and Community Development Department of the district is made up of 2 separate units ;<\/p>\n

The Social Welfare Unit which is made up of the following sections;<\/p>\n

  1. Child Rights Promotion and Protection<\/li>\n
  2. Community Care<\/li>\n
  3. Justice Administration<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The Community Development Unit which is also made up of the following sections;<\/p>\n

    1. Adult Education<\/li>\n
    2. Home Science Extension\/Local Economic Development<\/li>\n
    3. Extension Services<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      VISION<\/strong><\/h2>\n

      To take lead in integrating the disadvantaged, vulnerable and excluded persons in mainstream development.<\/p>\n

       <\/p>\n

      MISSION<\/strong><\/h2>\n

      The Department works in partnership with the people in their communities to improve their well-being through promoting development with equity for the disadvantaged, vulnerable and the excluded.<\/p>\n

       <\/p>\n

       FUNCTIONS<\/strong><\/h3>\n
        \n
      • Support families and individuals in the handling of Non \u2013 Child Maintenance cases, Abuse, Custody, Paternity and Family Reconciliation.<\/li>\n
      • Facilitate the implementation of the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) activities.<\/li>\n
      • Supervise and monitor the setting up and operations of residential homes.<\/li>\n
      • Handle domestic violence cases and spousal abuse.<\/li>\n
      • Identify and Register Persons with Disabilities (PWDs)<\/li>\n
      • To intervene in cases of children in worst form of Child Labor.<\/li>\n
      • Provide Hospital Welfare services<\/li>\n
      • Registration of NGOs<\/li>\n
      • Provision of vocational training for the poor and disabled.<\/li>\n
      • Undertakes sensitization and social education on social problems.<\/li>\n
      • Undertakes probation and prison after care services.<\/li>\n
      • Remove, Rehabilitate and Reintegrate street children.<\/li>\n
      • Supervise, Monitor and facilitate the registration of Day Care Centers.<\/li>\n
      • Rescue, Rehabilitate and Reintegrate victims of Trafficking in persons (TIPs)<\/li>\n
      • Prepare care orders for the court<\/li>\n
      • Supervise and monitor children placed on fostering, returned trafficked children and reintegrated children.<\/li>\n
      • Make representation at the juvenile and family courts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
