Dissemination of Multidimensional Poverty Report.

On the 25th of June, 2024 the Statistics Department of the Abura Asebu Kwamankese District Assembly, with support from the Ghana Statistical Service and the District Assembly, held the maiden edition meeting on the dissemination of the Multidimensional Poverty report. The purpose was to inform selected District Planning & Coordinating Unit (DPCU) members on the Multidimensional Poverty report and how findings from the report can be used in making decisions and planning for development in the district.
The MPI report shows simultaneous deprivations that is experienced by the population in a particular locality based on different dimensions of poverty: Education, Health, Living conditions and Employment (being the forth dimension as developed by Ghana). It complements monetary poverty measures by reflecting the deprivations that people face in other dimensions, which are also essential to guarantee a dignified life.

The report shows that in AAK, most people are deprived in areas of improved toilet facilities (84.5%), followed by lack of health insurance coverage (60%) and overcrowding (43.7%).The district, which initially had an Agriculture driven economy, now has most of its population 15years and older engaged in the services sector (46.6%), followed by agriculture (37.0%) and industry (16.5).
The proportion of the population living in multidimensional poverty in AAK (28.0%) ranks 15th out of 22 districts in the Central Region, and 146th out of 261 districts in Ghana.
The Regional Statistician, Mr. Ernest Kpentey, was present at the meeting.
